HOUSE FOR BOBBY McFERRIN

The existing building is a 19th century Italianate farmhouse with gardens, located within an urban nature preserve.  A series of hipped-roof additions to the old house create a varied sequence of outdoor rooms and frame distant views of the landscape. Indoor spaces accommodate a broad range of functions, from large social entertaining spaces to an intimate sound isolated recording studio overlooking the nearby creek.

The recording studio itself is a high-tech, soundproof room with good light, triple glazing, and an ultra-quiet mechanical system specially designed for Mr. McFerrin’s recording sessions.
